Restaurant M'11

Vin et soleil

Squid

If you ever find yourself in Carcassonne and either need an escape from the crush of tourists in la Cité or just can't face another overpriced, mediocre restaurant, I suggest you hop in your car and head 15 minutes southeast to the tiny village of Monze.

There you'll find Restaurant M'11, an unpretentious, charming little place that offers a menu of regional dishes done with panache.

I love squid, especially presented like that!

We toyed with the idea of stopping in Carcassonne when we were in the area last year but didn't. Next time we will and I'll suggest this restaurant to husband. I love wonderful discoveries like this!

You brought back lovely memories of our trip to Europe last month. We stopped in Carcassonne and were so horrified by the crowds that we left and went back at night. Only then did I find it to be the special place I remembered visiting with my family as a young child. We were lucky and found a decent place there for dinner. Still, I wish I had known about that little restaurant you introduce us to. The nicest surprise I found within the Cité walls was a fantastic museum about French public schools ("Le Musée de l'Ecole") I was instantly transported thirty + years back when I entered some of the exhibits there. Really cool! Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle

Wish I'd known about this one a few months ago! Guess I'll just have to come back. :)

Oooh, that is one to put on the list when we are in the area in October. Their menu looks great and they are only an hour or so from where we'll be staying. Thanks for the post!

It always makes me laugh to see M11. When Monze made the new logo it took me days of driving past to get it. m onze. I kept thinking m eleven and couldn't figure out what it had to do with Monze.
A little slow sometimes!
My favourite view in the Aude is right across the street from the restaurant out across the vineyards. There's a small roads that snakes away into the hills. I love it.
Cheers,
Sam

I had to laugh at the french equivalent of a name my sister has for a small town next to her in Wisconsin. The town is Rio (pronounced with a long i) and she calls it R-10 (R-ten) the way the lettering looks on the sign at the entrance to the village

Looks delicious. I have read a bit about Carcassonne and I would love to go but not enough time for it next year!

When you come back to the Languedoc, we must meet up!

Veronica
The crowds there in the summer can be horrifying!
Thanks for the museum recommendation. I'll have to check that out.

You know you always have a place to stay if you do!
Our friend, John, took us to this resto last week and we were pleasantly surprised. I wish we'd known about it sooner.

Sharon
You'll have to try it when you come back. I think they're open all year too, which is a rarity around here.

It was! And the owners and staff were also really nice.

We didn't get it right away. In fact, we didn't get it until we were looking at the photos of the sign.
lol
I've never been to Monze before and am so glad that our friend found this place. It was a beautiful drive and I agree, the views are wonderful!

Lisa
It was a nice discovery!
